POOLS FOR THE ETC 2019 READY
The next notable event on the #road2hel, the European Team Championships (ETC) 2021 in Helsinki, are the ETC 2019. Finland is playing in the second division, which means that either 2019 or at the latest 2020, Finland needs to go up to the first division, in order to chase the medal in 2021 in Helsinki.
The road is tricky. If we go up this year, we need to finish inside the top 6 next year to stay in the first division.
There could be a chance for gambling, but we have decided not to. We will do our best this year and if we succeed to go up, we need to trust to stay in the first division the year after. It’s as simple as that.
The pools for this years’ event have been published. Finland will meet Germany, Ireland and Ukraine. The top two will go into semifinals and both of the winners of the semi’s will be upgraded into first division for next year.
In the men’s event the situation is more or less similar. Finland will meet Ireland and Croatia in the pool matches. If we succeed to win our pool, we will then meet the winner of the other pool in a deciding match, to be upgraded into first division. The chances are pretty good, even though we may not get our best possible team to Birmingham, where the ETC takes place.
We are in the beginning of a 2-year project and it’s thrilling to think that the result of the project is a sum of numerous things, the most important one at the moment being the ETC 2019 in Birmingham in the beginning of May.
After seven weeks we will be wiser on the next steps of the project!
