HOW SQUASH STOLE MY HEART
I’m Riina Koskinen, 22, and I’m a professional squash player. I started playing squash at the age of 8, while still living in Kuopio, Finland. I have a background in competitive swimming, which is another passion of mine. Squash, however, stole my heart. I got the hang of the game quickly and out-played all the local boys too, which gave me the confidence to pursue a career as a professional squash player.
After graduating high school, I decided to seek international experience and soon found myself in Germany. As a young athlete, it’s of the utmost importance to get challenged on a regular basis, both on and off the court. Paderborn and Stuttgart offered just that!
WHAT ARE YOUR NEXT STEPS?
Goals are important, but it’s equally important to set milestones and make sure you’re on the right track. It’s not easy to make it as a professional player, because squash is super competitive. It might be one the toughest sports in the world!
I intend to finish my studies at some point and get my degree, while still keeping my eyes on the ball, the squash ball, that is.
Never let the fear of failure keep you from playing the game.
